Lil Nas X has released a new edition of “Montero (Call Me by Your Name).” This one is completely a capella — the entire song is performed with just Lil Nas X’s voice.
In addition to the continuing success of the chart-topping song, the new version might have earned the Nas X an important new fan.
This is the fourth rendition of “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” that Nas X has released. He previously released a “extended Satan’s version” remix, a lo-fi remix that’s “something you can study to lol,” and the instrumental — or as Nas X calls it, “Montero (Call Me by Your Name) [But Lil Nas X Is Silent The Entire Time].”
In the new version, he flips the song into the direct opposite of the instrumental. Nas X recreates the song’s beat — originally produced by Roy Lenzo, Omer Fedi & Take a Daytrip — completely with just his voice.
He released a video of him performing parts of the song in several different frames, and different looks, in addition to releasing the new edition on streaming services.
Nas X released the initial edition of the single earlier this month, complete with a music video that set off anti-LGBTQ people and the religious right for weeks. The sexual themes and imagery in the song’s lyrics and video include Nas riding a pole down from the gates of heaven to hell, then giving a lap dance to the devil.
Still, despite the outrage, it debuted at #1 in the United States and remains near the top at #2 as of this writing.
This version has already garnered 1 million views on Twitter, and at least 2 million on YouTube. One of those viewers was none other than Jesus Christ.
He calls it “a god damn hymn.”
If you don’t believe us, visit his website where he shares scripture, miracles and praise. You can also view his official YouTube page where Christ declares that “the son of God is on YouTube.” He’s even verified, which must mean Google believes it’s him.
Christ even went as far as confirming it was him on Twitter. He’s not verified on that platform as of yet, though.
